Paris encore

We've been doing some home-schooling (or should that be "vacation-schooling"?) with CQH while in Paris, which means starting out later than usual some days.  But we still managed to hit a couple of major museums, parks, and churches.

Elinor's delight with the Paris Metro system knows no bounds, and she's always willing to push any buttons, lift any levers, sit in any funky-shaped chairs, and go through any turnstile to make the entire experience entertaining for herself and everyone around her.  She has now worked out how to get through the platform entrance without the turnstile hitting her in the back of the head on the way through.  That's why she's smiling here.

Some ugly faces on the Pont Neuf.  It's covered in them.  (Long story.)

 Ho-hum... another stunning vista. (Yawn.)

Let's see: glass pyramids, 17th-century palace, and lots of people.  It must be the Louvre!

She still looks pretty good for an old lady.

By far the girls' favorite artwork in the entire Louvre.  The parents are thinking Audrey Hepburn in Funny Face.  The girls are thinking Eloise, I suspect.

LBH and CQH are totally entranced by... wait... what is it?  No, it's not the Mona Lisa.  It's the ridiculous crowd surrounding the Mona Lisa with iPhones raised trying to snap a blurry photo of what is in my opinion a rather mediocre painting.  Really, folks--just stop by the bookstore on the way out and pick up a postcard.  It's better than the view you've got here!

 See?

CQH adorns the Tuileries with her gorgeousness.  She is slowly becoming less camera shy.

The gardens are magnificent, especially for this time of year.  That's the roof of the Musee d'Orsay in the background, trying to distract us from the grecian urns, manicured lawns, impressive floral displays and statuary of the Tuileries.

We came back for more barbe-a-papa and carousel time.  HDH took a spin on the ostrich.

 Two statues, two seagulls.

St. Germain-L'Auxerrois.  A fairly nondescript little church across the road from the Louvre, but lovely on the inside.

I'm a sucker for stained glass.

  1. The Winged Goddess of Victory was one of my favorites too. And, before you ask, I did stop at the bookstore and buy a print on the way out. My view of the Mona Lisa was over the top of many Asian heads. There must have been a tour bus.
