I Walked Today Where Will and Kate Walked.

I hope that doesn't sound sacrilegious, especially to those familiar with devotional songs from the early 20th century.  But the Royal Wedding (and now the Royal Pregnancy) are still very big news over here and it was rather exciting to be in the same church that we last saw with trees lining the aisle.

Here are C and some of the students waiting for our tour guide just outside Westminster Abbey.  One of them found a massive leaf, which C is waving in a leisurely fashion because you KNOW that London in November is warm and toasty and perfect weather for a cooling breeze.

Statues of 20th-century martyrs over the entrance to Westminster Abbey

 The patina of age.

Photos aren't allowed in the Abbey itself.  But the cloisters are fair game, and I do love a good gothic cloister.

I'm not sure how they know this is Britain's oldest door.  Did they knock on all the others and check?  But I'll take them at their word.

We stopped for lunch in the old monastery kitchen, now a cafeteria, where we had nice sandwiches and the girls had THE MOST AMAZING mac and cheese in the history of the world.  I'm not exaggerating!  H actually asked chef for the recipe (and like any good chef, he shrugged it off and said "Ah it's nothing.  Just a bechamel sauce and some cheeses.")

Abbey facade and bookshop, in the waning light of the day.  (Actually it's about 3:30pm in this shot, but that's close to sunset.)

  1. I'm still enjoying all of your writings and pictures from your London Adventure.
I think the H & E picture in this post is my favorite.
