When it was almost sunset (which happens around 4pm in winter here), we walked up Calton Hill in Edinburgh. It's the location for a bunch of monuments and memorials, including this impressive piece, the National Monument, You can judge its size by the person leaning up against one of the pillars.
Breathtaking view of the city and Castle from Calton Hill at sunset

I love them in their less guarded moments. Running at full tilt is always a joy for these girls
Unimpeded view of the Castle from Calton Hill.
Back down from the hill and in the city, here is the statue of Sir Walter Scott at the Scott Memorial. He looks remarkably like William H. Macy.
We'd been to the Filling Station (a restaurant on the Royal Mile) the night before as well. But it was good food, and open, and on the way back to our hostel. I had haggis (which I've had before, and isn't all that bad really) but I think everyone else played it safe.
E wears her coat "Challenger Style" (as the girls call it.)
