On the way from the Lake District to Scotland, we stopped at Castlerigg, a neolithic stone circle a little like Stonehenge only smaller and more accessible. And then we paused at Hadrian's Wall, but not for very long because it started pelting with rain.
Sheep, hills, grey skies -- must be England.
Ditto.
The stone circle at Castlerigg is just right there, in the middle of a field. Quite impressive, really, that you can walk up and touch a 5000-year-old monument. And in this setting (with the mountains and fog and cloud) it was appropriately Romantic.
C and E have fun in the stone circle.
Wellies, a puddle, and pagan monuments. Life is good!
What is it with me and lichen-covered stone walls?
A real stone stile.
Love the colors.
I think Braveheart is hiding somewhere behind that wall.
Castlerigg looks a little less Romantic when crawling with college students.
And on to Hadrian's Wall.
Cutie.
More stone walls. There are plenty of them in these parts.
E took her own photo on the bus, and it was too good to leave out.
More wonderful photos. Mom says she has longed for many years to see Hadrian's Wall. Now she has.
